Why have a metered supply?
Metering is a key factor in helping to encourage water efficiency, identify leakage and reduce waste. Customers are in control of their consumption and can manage their
bills. Metering also means that customers on individual supplies, only pay for what they use.

Universal metering
We have introduced a programme of universal
metering of all properties connected to the mains
water network. Click
here for the provisional universal
metering timetable.

We will also fit a water meter to any property where
there is a change of account holder.
Where
a meter cannot be fitted, customers will be billed an assessed volume based on the occupancy of their property.
Your New Metered
Water Supply leaflet will provide you with all the information you need to help you manage your water supply and keep your charges for water as low as possible.

Cost of installing the meter?
The Company will install a meter in your property free of charge where it is possible to do so.
Unfortunately there are some properties, which cannot be metered either due to the location of the pipework, or due to the private pipework being shared by more than one customer.
Reading the meter?
One of our meter readers will read your meter approximately every three months. You will be billed for the volume of water (in cubic metres) shown as consumed between the current and previous meter reading.
Occasionally, it may not be possible to read your meter and we will estimate your consumption based on your past usage levels.
Where will the meter be located?
Most installations will be in the roadway or pavement outside the property. Once the
meter has been installed, customers will receive further information, with details on how the meter is read, billing information and water saving advice.
How much will it cost?
The unit cost of water is currently £2.33 per cubic metre (m3) which is 1,000 litres (approximately 220 gallons).
Use the table below to estimate your quarterly metered water bill.
The amounts assume an average consumption of 150 litres of water per person per day (as estimated by the UK water industry regulator - OFWAT). Please note that personal consumption can and does vary widely from the average and water bills can therefore be lower or higher than the amounts shown.
